MARIA VATMANIDOU

Maria Vatmanidou was born in Athens, Greece. She obtained her law degree (LL.B.) from the Law Faculty of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a master of laws degree (LL.M.) in Maritime Law from the aforementioned University, where she graduated cum laude. Her thesis was on “Preventive measures in Oil Pollution”. She has also received a scholarship from the International Propeller Club of the United States.

Maria’s main areas of expertise focus on maritime, civil and commercial law issues. She advises a wide range of clients, both nationally and internationally, including shipowners, ship managers, brokers and charterers, and represents their interests in all legal matters during the stages of negotiation and execution of ship sale and purchase (“S&P”) agreements, memorandum of agreements (“MOAs”), escrow agreements, charterparties (“C/Ps”) and other types of commercial agreements.

Furthermore, Maria is involved in litigation related to disputes arising under charterparties, marine casualties, carriage of goods by sea, insurance policies, arrests of ships, freezing injunctions and asset seizures. She also has experience in drafting civil lawsuits and pleadings, criminal complaints, out-of-court agreements, as well as in representing our principals before the Greek Courts.

Apart from litigation and dispute resolution, Maria assists corporate clients in company structuring and formation in overseas and mid-shore jurisdictions, shareholders agreements, know-your-customer (“KYC”) compliance, sanctions’ policies and generally in the day-to-day business.

She speaks Greek, English and German.
