Alexandros Charatsis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He obtained his law degree (LL.B) from the Law Faculty of the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece and a master of laws degree (LL.M) in Maritime and Transport Law from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Alexandros is a member of the Firm’s Shipping, Transport and Litigation Practice Groups, acting on behalf of a diverse range of clients, including shipowners, marine and yacht companies, charterers, salvors and shipyards, as well as underwriters, insurance brokers, financial institutions and logistic companies. His main area of expertise focuses on both wet and dry shipping cases, ranging from collisions, salvage, general average and marine pollution claims to charterparty, bill of lading, marine insurance and ship repair disputes, respectively. Alexandros has a substantial practice documenting and negotiating shipping contracts, for instance sale and purchase (“S&P”) as well as shipbuilding agreements, while his specialization does also extent to shipping finance and mortgage enforcement by an arrest of the debtor’s vessel.
Simultaneously, apart from shipping dispute resolution, Alexandros has deep insight into the logistics and transportation industry, offering legal advice and representation to those involved in carriage of passengers and cargo by road, rail and air. He has also been involved in international trade law matters, advising companies on an array of legal matters affecting cross-border sale of goods and services. Alexandros is also experienced in general commercial and corporate law. He assists corporate clients on a vast range of their day-to-day legal matters related to company formation, registration of foreign foundations in the appropriate jurisdiction, corporate governance and preparation of various distribution, agency and franchising agreements. He is a regular contributor to the international legal press, having published a series of articles and reports in the field of maritime and transport law. Alexandros speaks Greek and English.
